Large Family Photos | Ahwatukee Family Photographer

This gorgeous family--honestly, how did so many good-looking people end up in one family--was in town for a reunion.  They had just one evening that would work for everyone to be in the photos. Unfortunately, the weather failed to cooperate...  A haboob came through at about the same time our photos were supposed to be taken!  For those of you who aren't from Arizona, a haboob is a giant dust storm that thickens like fog, bringing visibility to a minimum.  Haboobs are often followed by rainstorms that ground all the dust and cause a thin layer of sand to stick to pretty much everything.  Needless to say, haboobs are bad news for photos.

We ended up taking the shoot indoors to avoid the dust and getting some group shots on a beautiful vintage couch from the living room (see the photos at the end of the post).  Amazingly, after about 30 minutes, the air cleared only a sprinkling of rain, and we were able to move back outside!  Of all the haboobs I've seen, this was by far the most convenient finish.  With the threat of rain still looming and the light dwindling, we quickly moved through the group shots outside and were extremely lucky to get through without any significant precipitation.  Thank you to this awesome family for rolling with the punches and smiling like champs!
